Purrfect Day

Jumping, hopping, clawing kitten
Playful in the soft morning light
Pursues unseen dangers
Forever on the lookout for a fight

Jumping, hopping, clawing kitten
Chases dog in tormenting pleasure
Dances in joy
Reaction is a newfound treasure

Jumping, hopping, clawing kitten
Every new crevice to be explored
Testing patience
Topples the drink I’ve just poured

Jumping, hopping, clawing kitten
Settles finally for the night
Peaceful, loving
Purring softly sleeps so tight

Pack

So now I’m back
In that rock hard place
That place where misery lives
As an outsider
To be used and battered
Mentally
For their amusement

Occasionally the door opens
I’m invited in
A strong hunter who can provide
Will provide
willingly
For a scrap of acceptance
Then, bellies filled the door slams
Hard and loud
Until hunger bites them again

I do not learn
I’ll never learn
I need their love as much as
They need my skill
They bight and snarl
I whimper
Return with another meal
Accepted again

No Magick

Sealed lips refuse to answer
the questions in their eyes
Does she have power?
Is she the one?
She will never tell,
let them speculate

They watch her every move
Wondering what she’ll do
Can she shape shift or make time stand still?
Can she turn boys into newts?
Will she,
eat their children?

The Devil she courts, they say
He becomes an animal in the day
She’s parched the land
Soured the milk
Look at her hands
Gnarled and wilted
From evil deeds

Then, “No!”

Another time another place
they had believed such things.
Enlightened age.
Powerless age.
No longer afraid.
They sneer instead.

No magic in their lives.
No magic in hers.
Delusional, insane, sad,
but no magician.

A child cries, from down a well
The cry ends
A crowd forms
Watching, helpless, motionless body
Mother cries, pleads for help
Child awakes,
scales smooth wall to safety

No magic they say
She smiles and turns away

Forever More

I know you’re there
I feel you in the dark
Watching me,
silent
No more words to say

Do you remember how we’d talk?
Have you forgotten the promise we made?
the never ending love
hearts tied forever more

Still no words
Yet it comforts me
knowing you are there,
so close
if impossible to hold

You didn’t leave me that winters night
when your skin turned cold and grey
and the tears streamed my face.
It was time to goyet you stayed

Earthling

the train doors slide open
schloop
a short business man in a suit
smiles
raises his hand in an american indian gesture
HOW
bids me “greetings earthling”
merges into the crowd
schloop

African Rain

Dark warriors march across the sky
Uniforms of blue, grey, green
storm the city
I wait, I watch
Gods army flex its muscles
A whiplash bolt lights the sky
I count
One-one thousand, two-one thousand
ROAR!
The enemy is two miles away
A moment earlier the sky was blue
Light blue, fresh blue, clear blue
Another bolt
One-one thou…
ROAR!
Whoosh!
The load spills like a fountain from the sky
In a second I am soaked
I run for shelter
The battle continues overhead
With each peal of thunder more rain
Until the street becomes a river
White waters racing to drains
ROAR!
Whoosh!
Silence!
The army disappears, chased by the late sun
Who greedily drinks
A mammoth thirst
Quenched in minutes
Parched streets
No sign of rain
